After Glacier National Park, we headed west to the panhandle of Idaho. Dave and his family used to come up to visit the relatives in Spokane, Wa and they would bring the RVs and boat here. I came once with Grandma and Grandpa Murbach and we fished for Kokanee, land locked salmon. They were very good and it was quite a bit of fun. I never came with the whole group but I heard stories of a hundred or more fish in a week!
The trip to Farragut was a bit nerve wracking since it is along 2 lane, narrow and winding roads. With rain, naturally. As a Californian I cannot regret rain for anyone in the west, but maybe not while Dave drives King Tut??!! Needless to say, I slept a lot to avoid acknowledging the crazy conditions! w passed through some interesting looking towns, and some beat up looking areas. Some places have not yet fixed up after the winter. But it is beautiful country up here. Just too cold for me!
Farragut has very strict policies about checking in before 2 pm which seemed a bit ridiculous considering the line of rigs down the road. THAT could not have been safe! We were second in line and got to our site easily. It had power and water which is very nice, and the campground was extremely nice. We liked that it is named Gilmore – we met in Gilmore Hall at UC Davis 43 years ago. Next door neighbors. That was quite a while ago.
Pend O’Reille is a large lake with many little towns around it, as well as Sandpoint which is very touristy. We did laundry in Bayview at a cute cafe/laundromat, stopped in Athol for a nice grocery store/Ace Hardware combo and spent one day walking around Sandpoint. We also got to go to Spokane to visit Kaiser and get my Rx figured out – they are sooo much more helpful there than in Folsom. And we had dinner with Chris & Tina, Eddy and Becky, and Kaitlin and Jeffery at Tomato Street. I have been wanting an Alfredo lasagna from there for 5 years now. It was great but I probably should not have eaten the whole thing. Yummy!! Tina is totally into making and selling sourdough now and she gave Dave a cinnamon loaf which was tasty.
We walked around the lake a few different trails – there is not much to do there without a boat, I must say. The campground was nice, with nice bathrooms and showers, and had children’s play equipment. It also has 8 disc golf courses (which seemed very popular) and a model airplane flying area. It was well kept up and mowed for the golf.

I saw a Bald Eagle a couple times while walking but no pictures of it. We saw deer, and many squirrels and chipmunks, and so many butterflies! I looked for Mountain Goats but you can’t get there by road so we didn’t see any of them. There are many camping sites and it was pretty busy.
