This move was very easy- not even 30 miles away. In fact, we had to sit and, have lunch, in a rest stop on the side of the Highway 5. Which is a nice rest stop so it wasn’t too bad!

How to explain this campground – wondrous comes to mind. It is just over 2 miles long and opposing sites down the road. One site is on the bluff looking over to the ocean, and the other site sits just across the road so it is a very narrow campground. It was nice to walk along the road looking over at the pacific. Lots of surfers and we saw porpoises several times right in front of our site.

We found a couple of farmer’s markets in the area but it was a little tricky to get around the campground – the railroad tracks run right along Highway 101/1 and sort of separate you from the coast. We did hear a few trains while we were there but nothing too bad. There were a lot of planes and helicopters which seemed to be coming from Camp Pendleton. Although they were noisy, they are also pretty cool to see over the ocean.

Sunset from our site
There were always surfers in front of our site

We didn’t do as much in this part of the trip, but relaxed a lot and made small incursions into town or along the coast. Our next stop is San Elijo State Beach which is just 9 miles away so we mostly stayed to the north. It was quite nice to just hang out at the beach!

We did visit the Carlsbad Marina and thought about going out whale watching but…not really the right time of year for that.
This is low tide, since there isn’t much land available during high tide!!
