Things are really quite green in Wilton these days after all the atmospheric river storms we’ve had! Still no permit for the ADU but soooo close. Dave and Matt built me 3/6 of my Birdie Beds- 4’ x 8’ raised metal beds. One has a pvc pipe trellis on it. Hopefully by my winter garden we will have these in their permanent placement between the houses!

The raised bed with the giant 8’ above the ground trellis! It is placed onto rebar in the bed for stability
They have drip irrigation and twine reaching to the plants. I transplanted some green beans to get things started!

I have mapped out a 1’ square place by place map for all of my plants taking into account the placement of the sun, plant height etc. If half the stuff grows we will have quite a bit of produce this year. There are green beans, several squash including summer squash and zucchini, cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelons, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers- lots of different things to see what I can grow and what we really like! Well…what they really like I should say! Green beans are for me. We also have yellow onions, garlic and potatoes growing in canvas bags around the pool area! Those take longer so I wanted to make sure they got started. Next year we will have twice the square footage for the annual garden!

Lori gave me this cute tractor sign for my birthday. You can see a transplanted Green Zebra tomato from her in the background
Lori also gave me 2 Roma tomatoes to transplant
These Lakota Squash have giant flat cotyledon leaves!
Even the carrots have started to sprout
Butternut on the left and cucumbers on the right!

We have also planned out the permanent garden – basically where the various plants are going and where the trellises will be. We still don’t know for certain if we will have to move the fences whenever the ADU gets built. There are 2 red grape plants that we trimmed back- scary because you really cut them so far back. They have started to grow out. We have also planted the blueberries and ginger in pots already. The raspberries are really leafing out and should go in the ground soon. I’ve started some of the herbs to transplant out here too. The blackberries also should probably get planted – they are hanging up in the pool area too. But looking good out there!

The grapes are leafing out nicely
This blueberry has already flowered and got a little trashed by the crazy winds in this last storm.
Hoping we get some compost or soil soon. These raspberries are truly growing quickly

And finally the orchard area. It looks like all the plants are leafing out if not already flowering. The plums and apricot have flowered already and the apple trees are just starting to flower. I have weeded and fed them all. So many weeds! The pomegranate/persimmon? tree had 2 or 3 flowers but has very pretty early red leaves. Some of the citrus also have flower buds on them. One pear tree has one flower but the other just started to show buds. All in all it is pretty exciting!

This little mandarin has so many buds just about to flower!
This dwarf apple tree just started blooming
A single flower on the Bartlett pear tree

I think things will start changing soon out here as it finally starts getting warm. Funny to think I’m still harvesting greens and peas but this garden is already going. Welcome to Central California!
