It was very nice to get away from the heat and smoke from the Dixie fire last week. Dave and I stayed in campsite #1 which we had never camped in before. Tut fit quite well but it does have limited quick access to the beach. Unfortunately it didn’t matter since we never saw any cetaceans to run down onto the beach to chase! But we did see other animals on our various hikes.

I am pleased with myself in that we went to Point Reyes and hiked 7miles along the Pierce Point trail. I was tired but I made it! The hike was very pretty and we got to see many Tule elk. Even a few big bulls and a couple of calves. On the way back to Little Red we came across a doe and fawn in a stare off with a coyote. We left before we ended up seeing the result from that. Then driving out, we saw a younger elk bull, in full rut, trying to gather cows into a harem. They didn’t feel the need to stick with him so that was fun to watch! The grass is sooo brown and the areas with cattle grazing look quite overgrazed. But many flowers were still blooming along the trails.

Then Tuesday we hiked for 5 miles along the conservancy trail north of Jenner. It was a bit steeper but I still made it. I guess walking/running in the gym pool is paying off after all! We went to raptor ridge but mostly saw vultures. We did see a Swainson’s hawk (I think). And a kestrel. This area overlooks where we go to see the harbor seals at the end of the Russian River.

Overall, this was a great trip. The weather was awesome and the waves perfect. Tut towed Little Red just fine and it was good to have them back after our weeks long interactions with Camping World. Unfortunately, Tut does have to go back for the final repairs on the part that arrived damaged but that will be this week and we will start to get ready for our September trip around the state parks but right now it’s on to the next journey to Half Moon Bay!
