It was another week of going out for lunch a couple of times. First, meeting up with Laurie H. who was such a good friend during my undergrad years at UCD. And how appropriate that Davis is just about halfway in between our homes so that is where we met up! Crepeville was OK, although surprisingly busy for a summer afternoon. I imagine it would be crazy during the school year. I used to love the summers as a grad student because the town was built for all of the students to be there, but 15,000 of them were gone! And watching the roundabouts those first couple of days after the dorms opened was quite amusing! We caught up on a lot of things like the kids (now all so grown-up) and life in general!

On Tuesday, we had our second monthly retirees lunch. This time we met at BJs in Folsom. Some of the same characters as the first luncheon, but some new ones. Who knew how funny Tim M is!!?? All these years working with him on our side of campus and I never knew! I think we really overwhelmed our server with the request for separate tickets (done before orders were made!), and Normajean had to scoot out quickly, but overall so much fun. And yes, we ended up tipping the waitress a second time for sitting there so long! These were some of my mentors when I first started teaching and they give me a lot of hope for what retirement can be.

And finally Lori was able to get back to the gym pool with me; I feel so bad for her family going through the craziness of a medical emergency. Just a giant slap in the face to remind me to enjoy life while we can and go spend time together. The smoke in the air from the Dixie fire is awful but I just wear a mask while working in my garden. I believe I finally might have some cantaloupe starts for sure! It has quickly become my mental haven.
