I have missed blogging a couple of coast trips but here we go again. We had a wonderful week on the coast, although it was a bit chilly. It was sunny and looked great but the high velocity winds were sooo cold! We only had a campfire one night when the wind became a breeze.
We really enjoy walking along the California Coastal trail in this area. Just off the campground and beach, you can walk through a bird sanctuary. We didn’t see many terrestrial birds, and no raptors at all. But then we headed into town to our favorite bakery- Moonside Bakery. They sell my favorite commercial bread by Coastside Bakery so we got a loaf of that. And a blackberry danish and chewy chocolate cookie. Of course!

On Tuesday we drove to Santa Cruz and went on another whale watching trip with the Stagnaro Brothers charter line. After being sooooo sick on the last boat, I truly loaded up on anti nausea stuff. I had my sea bands, ginger pills, decongestants and Emitrol chewables. I lasted for almost 1.5 hours until a pair of Humpback whales surfaced just feet from the boat and the captain had to get out of gear- while we were sideways to the swells. Gaaa….I took another ginger capsule and started eating the Emitrol!!! I did manage to avoid feeding the fish this trip out and I did truly feel better once we started moving. We ended up seeing 4 Humpback whales and a pod of about 14 Risso’s dolphins. We were able to follow the dolphins for over a half hour- they are funny looking and pretty cool. I saw one calf and heard there was another. Totally cool.

Dave and I tried a new trail later in the week – Devil’s Slide, which is the old Highway 1 prior to the tunnel passage. It was nice because it is decently paved but it is pretty steep up and down. We saw a Gray whale and her calf, and maybe a second one. Hard to tell.
