It is funny to think about how busy I am when I really have so little to do! Heck – I didn’t even work in Duolingo this week (yet!). Trying to remember Spanish. It was so much easier before I leveled up! And started “aging” out, I think. Trying to keep the brain limber, you know!

This week was lunch with friends week. Tuesday, Rita B and I drove all over the Sierra Foothills for her driving adventuring birthday. We started in Truckee for breakfast at the old Squeeze Inn, then north on highway 89 to Sierraview until we reached highway 49. The original plan had been to go to Quincy but the Dixie fire squashed that plan. We followed highway 49 down towards Nevada City with plans of getting out and window shopping but there were SO MANY people wandering around that we decided to continue our driving adventures instead. We stopped at a couple historical markers but mostly just enjoyed being almost alone on the road. Little Red was fun going around the curves and seeing the amazing Sierra Views. Then lunch at High Hand nursery and home. Over 200 miles and lots of good talk catching up. And it was so refreshing that little of our talk involved school other that a few reminisces that ended with “not our problem!”

Then Wednesday, I met up with Laura R for lunch once she finished work at Kaiser Roseville. Lunch being a loose word since it lasted over 3 hours at Jack’s Urban Eats. Since she works through the traditional lunch time, we can sit for a long time without feeling like we are taking up too much space from a waitsperson! Lots of catching up again, and kid talk. It is fun to hear her talk about driving up to Gonzaga and remember the places we used to go along the way. Emily doesn’t officially start until the end of August so there is another Spokane drive in their future – HA! But not in mine. That is not a drive I will miss – plenty OK when we were doing it, but not one to miss too much! A good stimulating talk session, and enjoyable memories.

Today I met Lori S at the gym so we could walk the pool and help her legs start getting into school shape. Unfortunately, I did have many thoughts of “thank God I am NOT going back soon!” as we walked for those 50 minutes. I have started walking the treadmill for a mile before hitting the pool for an hour+ each day od additional walking and swimming. I may not be getting ready for school but I have to get these legs in shape for our upcoming camping adventures! But again today, Lori and I were mostly able to avoid school talk instead talking a lot about exercising, plants and gardening. She is so creative and good with the plants. I am anxious to go and see her latest creations in her yard. She worries about getting bored in retirement but I was able to reassure her that I have yet to get bored and truly LOVE those fleeting moments of “I need to start planning” but oh no, I don’t. Usually by this time in the summer I would have 2 or even 3 mornings set aside for getting ready for the new year! When I stopped in at Winco today, I did have the momentary “Crap school supplies are out” thought but it quickly passed! I am so surprised at how much I simply do not care about not going back to school. It isn’t like I am really happy about it, but simply just relaxed I guess about it.

And I get to end the week with another lunch tomorrow with Kris R. Good thing I am going to the gym so much with all of this eating out! And I have made some connections with friends I truly haven’t seen in years for future meet-ups. Between the gym, gardening an hour+ a day, and all these meetings with friends, who has time to be bored??! Oh, and don’t forget time to read in peace and those naps. Life is good. Estar contento en la vida! Off to practice some Spanish!
