I am truly amazed at how much I enjoy my time in the garden, even on days like yesterday & today when I was actually BUSY! And I hand watered today so that I could fertilize and be sure of where that fertilizer went. Lately I’ve been thinking about my father a lot – not that we ever gardened, but we spent much of my early childhood outside observing “nature.” Might also have to do with the fact that Saturday would be his 84th birthday.

There are some new developments in the garden. Most of the bicolor corn has now tasseled and I have my first “baby” squash. Still lots of flowers on the cantaloupe and watermelon, but nothing has set. The green beans are growing and I definitely have a “friend” helping themselves to the beans. I can find a couple snipped at the stem examples! And the first set pepper has turned orange! Only one other green pepper on the plant but lots of flower blooms.

I love seeing the little sets as they start to become the fruit of the plant!

I wonder how much this super hot, sort of hot, back to super hot weather is affecting the plants. I always make sure to water twice on days over 95F, which lately seems to be quite often. My garden is protected from direct sun right at noon but gets morning sun and afternoon sun for a little while. This has been a fun experiment! I even have a couple volunteer peas from the winter garden but they aren’t doing very well with the heat. I get pigmy single pea pods. They are mostly hiding out under the watermelon leaves! It is hard to feel stressed when I am out there breathing in the pure oxygen those plants are producing!

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

This little pepper turned from green to orange in just 3 days.
